Global Action Week – campaign launches this week
This week some some 15 million children in over 100 countries around the world are sitting down to take a lesson in support of the 1GOAL campaign, which aims to ensure that every child around the world has the opportunity to go to school. The campaign, which launched this week as part of an annual Global Action Week, will run until the end of the World Cup, asking people to sign their names to help put pressure on governments to deliver the $16 billion a year that is needed to ensure that the 72 million children currently unable to go to school can receive an education. With the support of FIFA, a number of world leaders, and some of the biggest names in football, 1GOAL is setting out to be the biggest campaign around a sporting event aiming to get 72 million people signing their names up to the campaign for those who can’t www.join1goal.org. This support will then be used to encourage new commitments from governments attending the High Level Summit that will be hosted by the South African Government during Africa’s first World Cup.

1GOAL is an ambitious and important campaign that will change the lives of 72 million children living in poverty by helping to give them an education. 1GOAL is campaigning in over 200 countries from now until the FIFA World Cup final in South Africa in 2010.
Why Education for All?
Today, 72 million children around the world are denied the opportunity to go to school. Education is the best tool we have for tackling poverty, and it is the one investment that ultimately pays for itself: When a child gets educated, they will eventually earn more and be better able to support their family.
Why Football?
The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the world’s biggest single sporting event, with over half the world watching, a time when millions come together to share the passion of football. With all eyes turning to South Africa for 2010, this is a moment for all of us to shine and give education to children in the world’s poorest countries. Global football stars, the football world and its governing body, FIFA, are coming together with charities to support 1GOAL.

The primary goal of the application is to create a suitable environment for the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Science subjects in schools. The backdrop of a football environment is designed to present the material in a unique, engaging and challenging format for students. The activities while based around football themes are universal and related to real world learning scenarios.
